When in Doubt, Duck

eFowl.com, serving all your fowl desires

I am on deadline. I am late on my deadlines, so now my deadlines have deadlines. This is as much of a post as you will get from me today. At the risk of losing any hope of being considered a Serious Writer, I leave you with this:

Off to visit eFowl. But no, I have a deadline to meet, and there is no room in my life for awesome baby ducks right now.

<sigh>

Someday.

Anything looming over you right now? Or is everything just (baby) ducky?

Many things are looming over me right now, personal deadlines and determined attempts at making a better life from the inside out.

Aside from that, I’m hoping now that the baby duck in the the film was or became a beloved pet, seeing as how he or she has a new mommy now. And yes, I know my life would become easier if I stopped worrying about such things.

Ré: I don’t think any of us can simply stop worrying. But if we tend to our own stuff, and what we can influence, we naturally release the problems we can’t solve to the care of those who can. There are so many ducklings suffering in this world, but it’s not a crime to let yourself smile at the antics of one.

The Move is looming over us. The truck comes Wednesday morning and I’m already exhausted and running on fumes.

The ducks remind me of our last trip to Portland. While we were having dinner one night, Drew and I watched from the restaurant as some drivers pulled over to try to help a mama duck and her ducklings, which were wandering into a busy road. They managed to collect the babies, but spent almost an hour chasing mama around the parking lot. They were still after her when we finished dinner and left. I wonder what happened to the little family.

I wish I were there to pitch in with the box-shlepping. You know what they say: a good friend will help you move. A really good friend will help you move a body.

I remember how stressed I was when we were moving from Philly back to Florida. I was (unknown to me) peri-menopausal to the max, and would break down sobbing every couple of hours. I really wanted to be in Florida, but had a lot of friendships in Philly. My husband said to me, it’s like a plant being repotted; your roots are exposed to the winds of change, which is painful, but you’re moving to a bigger pot, where you can grow.

»I wonder what happened to the little family.«

They flew to Seattle, but could not escape their past:
