The Lives They Loved, a collection of photos from New York Times readers, is a show-and-tell of loved ones who have died in the past year. Many wonderful tributes to seemingly ordinary people. Keeps me mindful of this temporary existence, but also of the power of memory and story.

What beautiful tributes. The one of an elderly man on a hospital bed, whose caption read, “He was my brother. He loved alcohol more than life,” stopped me cold. I was reminded of my mother who didn’t necessarily love her cigarettes more than her life, but she certainly needed them more.
The Raggedy Ann dolls on the piano undid me. What a poignant collection.
I hope you’ve had a wonderful day, T. Happy holidays.
